Struggle Continues for Cumberland

Cumberland took to the road for the last game of November and the first game of December. The Blazers continued to struggle in their last two games against the Cedar View (Kingsport, TN) Seahawks and the Williamsburg Jackets.

In Kingsport, the Seahawks got off to a quick start leading 27-8 at the end of the first period. Although Ben Pruette put up 21 and Shane Jung racked up 17, it wasn’t enough to keep the Seahawks from plowing ahead for a 71-49 win over the Blazers.

Cumberland headed to Williamsburg Monday to take on the Jackets in their season opener. The Blazers kept pace early in the first quarter but eventually lost steam trailing 63-20 at half. The Jackets went on to win 86-33. Shane Jung led the Blazers with 14.

“I saw the guys work hard at both of our last two games. We’ve just got to learn to work smarter,” said head coach Justin Hensley Monday night after the Williamsburg loss. “Our defense was much better in this game [at Williamsburg] than it has been yet this season, but our offense is out of rhythm. We’re going to work on that before this weekend.”

Cumberland (0-5,0-3) travels north this weekend to play in the Berea Tip Off Classic. The Blazers will take on Lee County on Friday for a 6pm tip and will play into Saturday against Berea (12:30am tip) and Eminence (3pm tip).
