Blazers Hold Off Warriors

5 Feb 2019 by Justin Hensley

Cumberland hosted the Danville Christian Academy Warriors Thursday night at Grace on the Hill in Corbin for a non-conference matchup. The Blazers came out strong and were able to hold off several runs by the Warriors to put a win in the books for a final score of 81-78.

“DCA is a great school and we have matched up well against them the last few seasons,” said Blazers Head Coach Justin Hensley before the game. “[DCA Athletic Director] Jamie Middleton has brought in a couple of great new coaches and their team is certainly growing and improving. We’re looking forward to a good matchup tonight. We’ve got to play hard down the stretch and not get behind early.”

Shane Jung had 16 of his 27 points in the first quarter as the Blazers came out strong with a 23-10 lead at the end of the period. The Warriors came back in the second and outscored the Blazers by 4 for a 39-30 halftime score. While things stayed pretty much even in the third, Tanner Pilarski scored 17 of his 41 in the fourth to lead the Blazers on to victory.

Luke Caldwell and Preston Carter scored 27 and 26 respectively for the Warriors. In other stats, Cumberland is now 5-1 against Danville Christian under Coach Hensley.

Cumberland (8-20, 4-12) will travel to Burgin on Thursday (2/7) for a 7pm tip and will return back home Monday (2/11) to face Jordan Christian Academy for a 6:30pm tip on senior night.
