Cumberland Loses Close Game to Cedar View

4 Dec 2018 by Justin Hensley

The Blazers were back on the road Monday night as they traveled to Kingsport, TN, to take on the Cedar View Christian School Seahawks in a non-conference matchup. Both teams fought hard to keep the game close, but the Seahawks eventually ended up on top with a final score of 59-51.

“Cedar View has always had a tough team,” said Head Coach Justin Hensley, who is also an alumnus of the school. “Coach Strickland runs a tight ship and has an experienced team. However, we out-hustled them and put ourselves in a good position to win the game even though they have some really talented players. We just came up a little short in the end.”

Cumberland led Cedar View at the end of the first 12-9, but the Seahawks came back in the second due to some Blazer turnovers to lead 30-23. Cedar View outscored Cumberland 13-10 in the third quarter and entered the fourth with a 10 point lead. The Blazers worked hard to come back but were unable to close the gap in the 8 point loss.

Shane Jung led the Blazers charge with 19 points, with Ben Pruette chipping in a season high 16. Isaac Strickland propelled the Seahawks with 28 points. Nick Rose added 18 for the Seahawks.

Cumberland (3-4, 2-2) will return home Thursday and Friday for back-to-back conference games at Grace on the Hill in Corbin. Thursday’s game against Georgetown will tip at 7pm. The U12 team will start out the day on Friday for a 6:30pm tip against Bourbon. Varsity will warmup and tip against Bourbon directly following the U12 game.
