Cumberland returned home Monday night to take on the Gateway Christian Eagles in a KCSAA regular season matchup. First Baptist Barbourville served as the home court for the Blazers as they scored early and never looked back for a 62-38 final score.

Shane Jung shot out of the gate with 10 points in the first quarter to open up a 16-7 lead at the end of the first. Braden Mills poured in 8 points for the Eagles to outscore the Blazers 11-10 in the second. The Blazers went to the locker room at half with a 26-18 lead and increased the lead to 20 points by the end of the third. The Blazers went on to outscore the Eagles 16-12 in the fourth to increase the lead and secure the win.

“We’ve been improving every game. I think we’re finally playing as one unit,” said senior guard Micah Stargel who finished the game with 9 points.

Cumberland had three players in double digits with Jung finishing with 25, Tanner Pilarski with 16, and Ben Pruette with 12. Braden Mills led the Eagles with 21 and Bailey Baker added 11.

Head Coach Justin Hensley stated after the game that the team “really did a good job of offensive spacing and passing the ball. We played a little slow at times, so we’re going to have to ramp up the intensity and speed before next week’s games. Overall it was a good win and I’m proud of the guys getting the job done.”

Cumberland (3-3, 2-2) will hit the road Monday (12/3) for a non-conference game at Cedar View Christian School in Kingsport, TN, for a 6pm tip. The Blazers will then return home for back-to-back conference matchups on Thursday and Friday (12/6-7) with Georgetown and Bourbon.
