Cumberland Athletics head varsity boy’s basketball coach Justin Hensley has released the finalized 2018-2019 schedule which features over 30 games spanning November through February. New this season, the Blazers will play several KHSAA contests including the Christmas Invitational Tournament at Buckhorn High School. The schedule also features KCSAA league games and a handful of non-conference KCAA and TAACS games.

“I am excited about the opportunity for us to expand competition beyond our league this season,” said Hensley. “I believe that the teams we have scheduled will help us grow athletically in preparation for the postseason.”

Cumberland will open the season on the road against KCSAA league rival Jordan Christian Academy on November 1 with a 6:30pm tipoff. CA will remain on the road against Lakeside Christian (11/5) and Madison Christian (11/6) before taking on the Annville Eagles for their season home opener on November 15.

Late December and early January will prove a road test for the Blazers as they play the Belmont Christian Tournament December 14-15, the Christmas Invitational Tournament at Buckhorn December 27-29, and the Battle on Mustard Seed Hill at Bourbon January 4-5.

“Our guys really need to learn to play in a tournament scenario to prepare for the postseason. Playing ball when the crowd is loud and it’s hard to hear your teammates and the whistle is always difficult. I think the December and January tournaments will help us prepare for that scenario in the league tournament,” said Hensley.

The KCSAA State Tournament will take place on February 22-23 at the MidAmerica Sports Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
